Africa’s qualifiers for India 2020 are spread across three stages. The preliminary round took place across two weekends - 10-12 January and 24-26 January – with 16 teams involved in a knockout basis and home-and-away ties played over two legs. Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa join in the first round, scheduled for 28 February-1 March, with the top six teams advancing to the second and decisive round. The winners of those three final knockout ties, which have been postponed due to the Coronavirus crisis, will go on to represent Africa at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The 2019 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship, which took place in September 2019, doubled as Asia’s qualifying competition for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Korea DPR and eventual champions Japan reached the final and, in doing so, secured the continent’s two available berths for the global finals. India, who naturally qualify as hosts, complete the Asian trio.
